Canadian Forces Decoration
(1949)

This decoration was instituted on the 15th of December 1949 as an award to officers and men of the Canadian Regular and Reserve Forces for 12 years of service. Time spent in the Regular, Reserve or Auxiliary Forces of the British Commonwealth also counted provided that:

(a) the last five years had been spent in the Canadian Forces, and

(b) the service did not count towards another medal.

A bar was awarded for each additional ten-year period served. The decoration replaced all the long service decorations and medals issued to Army regular, reserve or auxiliary forces.
